This summer continues to be a busy one as baseball, basketball, road races and walks highlight an early August schedule.
For Little League fans, the Freehold Township Little League is the host to the Junior League Eastern Regional Aug. 5-10, at the league’s complex at Michael Tighe Park, Georgia Road, Freehold Township.
State champions from Maine to Maryland will be playing for the right to compete in the Junior League World Series in Taylor, Michigan.
This is the 12th consecutive year that Freehold Township has been home to the Regional.
The perk for being the host is that the league’s district (District 19) champion goes directly to the Regional. This year once again that champion is Freehold Township, which beat Lincroft, 10-6, in 10-innings in the District final to gain entry to the Regional with nine state champions.
Freehold Township begins play on Aug. 5 against the Connecticut state champion, Edgewood LL from Bristol, at 4 p.m.
The Jersey Shore Basketball League playoffs come to a conclusion on Aug. 8 at Wall Township High School with the championship game. Tip off is 7:30 p.m.
On the road racing front, the Sea Girt 5K Run/Walk will be held on Aug. 6. The 5K Run/Walk begins at 8:30 a.m. with Kids Races following at 10 a.m.
Monmouth Park will be taken over by two-legged racers on Aug. 7 when the 11th Annula Kortney’s Challenge 2-Mile Fun Run/Walk is held starting at 8:30 a.m.
The event benefits pediatric brain tumor research.
