The Hillsborough chapter of an Italian-American service and heritage group selected 22 year-old Alexandra R. Donnadio as its Miss 2016 Hillsborough UNICO.
Ms Donnadio, is a graduate of Hillsborough High School, Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) and is currently attending the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City.
She received her Bronze Award in Girl Scouts at a young age and was a member of the Criminal Justice Club while attending at RVCC.
Having volunteered at the Vacation Bible School, JFK Hospital, NJ Association of Counties and other organizations, Hillsborough UNICO member and Township Administrator Anthony Ferrera said Ms. Donnadio was a natural choice to represent the group.
“The team felt (Ms. Donnadio) exceeded all the requirements that we look for in a person representing the organization,” Hillsborough UNICO member and Township Administrator Anthony Ferrera said. “Her continued education, volunteerism and strong family values were something we felt strongly about.”
Each year, UNICO chooses its Miss Hillsborough UNICO based on criteria of academics, community service, arts and music, sports and an Italian heritage. Ms. Donnadio’s parents are of Sicilian and Calabrese decent.
A potential candidate must also be comfortable speaking in public and must be 18 to 25 years old. She must also be familiar with the goal of UNICO and be able to attend the John Basilone Parade in Raritan on Sunday, Sept. 18.
Ms. Donnadio will make her first public appearance as Miss UNICO Hillsborough at the Hillsborough Rotary Fair Family Fun Day for families with children and young adults with disabilities on Sat., Aug. 20 from 1–4 p.m. in the Lowes Parking Lot.
