A Princeton University graduate student fought off a man who tried to mug him on Alexander Street Wednesday night, the university Department of Public Safety said.
The unidentified student was walking south on Alexander Street around 11:20 when he was put in a bear hug by a man who grabbed him from behind, the university said.
The suspect was feeling the victim around his pants pockets, according to the university, when the graduate student hit him in the face.
The assailant was last seen fleeing on Alexander Street in the direction of the Dinky station, the university said. He has a dark complexion, is around 5 feet 9 inches tall, has short black hair and was wearing black clothing, according to a description the university released.
Anyone with information on the crime was asked to call the department of Public Safety at 609-258-1000.
