The Gallery of Dance, located in Freehold, had a successful performance at the World Dance Championship held Aug. 2-7 at the Meadowlands Exp Center in Secaucus. Dancers from the Freehold dance studio competed in five routines throughout the week in the categories of small group and large groups. The World Dance Championship is a spectacular event that hosts over 150 dance studios from throughout the United States and 11 other countries.
One young group of dancers gave an outstanding performance and was chosen to advance to the Top 5 Finals for two routines. Thea Ekizian, Isabella Federico, Sydney Friedenberg, Mckenzie Loschiavo and Grace Tempest performed a small group tap routine as well as a large jazz routine with the following dancers: Charlotte Fucarino, Cailin Holley, Michelle LoBocchiaro, Sofia Murray, Parker Novak and Izzy Tonielli.
Their large group Jazz Routine “Applause” competed in the Final 5 dance off and was awarded second place overall.
The dancers qualified for competition during their regular competition season competing at Revolutions Regional Dance Competition in Voorhees in March, Nexstar Dance Competition in Sewell in May and Revolutions National Dance Competition in Virginia Beach, Virginia, in July. The dancers took home many awards, including Platinum’s, Best Choreography and highest score overall.
The 2016 Street League Skateboarding (SLS) Nike SB World Tour returns to the Prudential Center in Newark Aug. 28, marking the first U.S. event of the season following two sold-out international events in Barcelona, Spain, and Munich, Germany.
Local fans will witness a full roster of the best skateboarders in the world, such as Paul Rodriguez, Nyjah Huston, Chris Cole and more competing to advance to street skateboarding’s official world championship — the SLS Nike SB Super Crown World Championship — this year being held in skateboarding’s hometown of Los Angeles, California, Oct. 2.

The Spotswood 5K Race/Walk and 1-Mile Fun Run will be held Sept. 10. The Fun Run goes off at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K at 9 a.m. Race-day registration begins at 7:30 a.m.
