METUCHEN — A 63-year-old Edison man was charged with theft and forgery after swindling thousands of dollars from a doctor in Edison and an attorney in Metuchen, according to police.
On August 24, Aaron H. Katz was arrested by Metuchen Police detectives for the theft of $140,524 from an Edison doctor. Several weeks prior, Katz had been arrested on July 29 for stealing $354,490 from a Metuchen attorney, police said.
Katz, of Stoltz, Katz & Company in Metuchen, utilized his position as an accountant for both victims to carry out the thefts, according to police. The thefts from the attorney started in 2013, when Katz began to issue himself checks from the attorney’s account. Over the course of the next three years, Katz issued himself more than 100 checks without the victim’s authorization or knowledge.
The thefts from the doctor began in 2014, when Katz again began to issue himself checks from the doctor’s accounts. Over the next two years, Katz issued himself more than 80 checks without the victim’s authorization or knowledge.
Katz was charged with two counts of second degree theft and two counts of forgery. He was processed and transported to Middlesex County Corrections Center in North Brunswick where as of press time he was being held in lieu of $75,000 bail.
