Wellspring Center for Prevention (formerly NCADD of Middlesex County Inc.) announced the appointment of Mara Carlin to the position of coalition coordinator.
Carlin will coordinate the efforts of the multi-sector Coalition for Healthy Communities. Her duties include the facilitation of coalition meetings, implementation of initiatives and assisting with reporting requirements for funders.
She will continue to spearhead the coalition’s Tobacco Task Force and liaise with Middlesex County residents (youth, parents, clergy) and professionals (law enforcement, businesses, local government) to expand the reach of the coalition.
She will design and conduct training/presentations for coalition members and the community and coordinate with members to implement action plans with a specific focus on environmental strategies and moving coalition initiatives toward sustainability.
Carlin will continue to prepare and present developmentally and culturally appropriate educational programs and presentations directly to students, parents, professionals and community groups in various settings.
Carlin graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1999. She began work as a SPARK counselor for the New York City Board of Education from 1999-2002, where she provided prevention programs to students at Sheepshead Bay High School. She was also the peer leadership advisor through the SPARK program where she helped high school students facilitate conflict resolution.
In 2002, she joined NCADD as the coordinator for REBEL, New Jersey’s youth anti-tobacco movement. She presented school-based prevention services and transitioned to a prevention educator and later became the education coordinator for the agency.
Carlin left the agency in 2008 to stay home with her two sons and then returned as a part-time employee in 2014.
