The following was posted on the Princeton Public Schools website:
The Princeton Public Schools community is mourning the loss of John Miranda, the district’s Athletic Director, who passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 28, 2016.
John had been with Princeton Public Schools since 1993, starting as a business education teacher at Princeton High School before becoming Athletic Director and Supervisor of Health and Physical Education in 2005.
“John went above and beyond his duty as an administrator,” shared Bob James, President of Friends of Princeton Athletics. “He was a huge fan and loved to see our students do well.”
John was head coach for the PHS baseball team from 1996-2004. During that time, many of his student athletes went on to have successful baseball careers at colleges and universities. As Athletic Director, John never missed an Athletic Hall of Fame dinner and loved stories that alumni would tell. John spearheaded the homecoming initiative that started three years ago and could be found without fail at all district sporting events.
John had a M.A. in Education from Temple University and a B.S. in Business Administration from Wilkes College. Prior to becoming a teacher, he was a First Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. As a member of the United States Marine Corps Reserve, John served several tours of duty in Iraq.
The pride of John’s life were his three sons, who were all PHS graduates and outstanding athletes. With his easy-going, upbeat personality, John was a friend to many.
John will be greatly missed in our schools and in our community. The district sends condolences to his wife Jean, his three sons John Jr., Nicholas, and Timothy, and members of his immediate family.
