PRINCETON — The council on Monday will propose that residents in the area of Birch and Leigh avenues start paying for parking their cars on the street during the overnight hours.
Residents there and along with those on Race Street and the very end of John Street at the moment are covered by old township parking regulations, and thus are exempt from having to buy a permit that costs $30 per quarter or $120 a year. That would change starting in January 2018, according to a proposed ordinance amendment that will have the entire Witherspoon-Jackson neighborhood play by the same parking rules.
“There’s no such thing as free parking,” Councilwoman Jenny Crumiller said Thursday by phone.
As part of the same ordinance, the town is proposing, for what used to be the former borough, eliminating the one hour of on-street parking that was allowed from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.
