Library to open tech center for visually impaired

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held 11 a.m. Sept. 21 at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center, to mark the opening of a new assistive-technology learning center for those with changes in their vision.

Through a partnership between the library, the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CBVI) and the New Jersey State Library Talking Book and Braille Center, the Library Equal Access Program (LEAP) will introduce adults (ages 55 years and older) with a change in vision to new, helpful computer and iPad technology with magnification and speech.

LEAP has placed computers and iPads at the library and is offering free training. Topics will include sending email, reading documents and browsing the Internet. Training will be provided by Advancing Opportunities.

To register for the free classes, call Advancing Opportunities at 888-322-1918, ext. 595. For a complete schedule, log on to www.ebpl.org.
