Alborada to perform ‘Spanish Tapas’ at library Sept. 28

On Sept. 28 at 7 p.m., the Woodbridge Main Library will welcome the Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre, New Jersey’s Premiere Flamenco and Spanish Dance Company, for “Spanish Tapas.” This presentation will explore the rich diversity and long history of Spanish dance styles, from regional dances that originated in the mountains of Asturias, Northern Spain to Gypsy rumbas. Dancers will use castanets, shawls, fans, and of course a lot of footwork!

Through dance, drama and music, Alborada’s passionate artistry reveals the many diverse and historical threads that comprise the multicultural fabric of Spanish culture. Both entertaining and educational, the variety of its repertoire runs the artistic gamut of Spanish Flamenco and traditional dances, to Hispanic, Celtic, and Moorish cultural influences and beyond.

Currently headquartered in Fords, the Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre was founded in 1965 by María Alba. It was revitalized in 1980 by Alba and its current artistic director Eva Lucena. In 1995 it was incorporated as a non-profit organization in New Jersey. Today, Alborada presents a wide variety of master classes, lectures and community presentations, continuing to educate the public about the beauty, expression and art of Spanish dance.
