The political arena is not a ‘safe space’

Just before reading Vincent Solomeno’s recent Your Turn guest column, I had read that the Dean of Admissions of the University of Chicago had sent letters to incoming freshmen stating there would no longer be “trigger warnings” or “safe spaces” at the university.

Therefore, I got a good laugh when Mr. Solomeno mentioned the three college students who rushed to his table saying, “Thank God we found you, we thought only the lying Republicans were here.” Obviously, they had found their safe space!

Mr. Solomeno is also offended by the man who was looking for an American flag at what, I assume, was the Democrat stronghold. That man also had the incivility to say he didn’t vote Democrat. My word, such gall!

It seems the United States has become a nation full of snowflakes who melt at the very thought that someone may have a difference of opinion from theirs.

Mr. Solomeno is the Democrat candidate for Monmouth County surrogate, but doesn’t seem to understand the political arena is not a polite “safe space.”

Political correctness may be something many politicians preach, however, you will not find it in politics, Mr. Solomeno, so I suggest you look forward to a rough couple of months, toughen up and don’t be a melting snowflake.
