Colts Neck
The Colts Neck High School boys’ soccer team was blanked by Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) Sept. 17, 6-0. The girls’ team ended with a 2-2 tie Sept. 13 against Freehold Township High School.
Senior Raeann Giannattasio finished in 14th place during the Senior race of the Bernie Magee Memorial Class Meet held Sept. 17 at Greystone Park in Morris Plains. Giannattasio finished with a time of 21:05.90. Sophomore Colleen Megerle finished in fifth among sophomores at the meet with a time of 19:40.00.
Freehold
The girls’ soccer team went 2-1 last week. It had a 2-1 win at Neptune High School Sept. 13 and a 2-1 home win against Ocean Township High School Sept. 17 to go with a 6-2 loss to Manalapan High School Sept. 15.
The field hockey team continued its strong early play with three victories last week. The Colonials started the week off with a 6-1 win over Howell High School Sept. 14, followed by a shutout against Colts Neck, 2-0, Sept. 16. They closed the week by edging Southern Regional High School, 3-2, Sept. 17.
Freehold Township
Freeholder Township’s football team defeated Colts Neck, 44-7, Sept. 17. The visiting Patriots were able to get the scoring started early with a 27-yard touchdown run by Max Nowak, followed by a 53-yard pass from quarterback Charles Sabbagh to Adrian Rybaltowski to make the score 14-0. Colts Neck responded in the second quarter with a 3-yard run by Vincent Gargiulo to cut the score in half. However, Freehold Township tacked on 10 more points before the end of the half and outscored Colts Neck, 20-0, in the second half.
In boys’ soccer, the Patriots shut out Wall High School, 3-0, Sept. 17 behind a pair of goals by Kevin Finn.
The girls’ team was less successful, losing, 2-1, to Wall. Jasmine Colbert gave Freehold Township a 1-0 lead before Wall scored two unanswered goals to get the victory. The girls’ team also shut out Neptune, 2-0, Sept. 15.
Howell
Howell’s football team was able to win a road game at Freehold, 41-21, Sept. 17. The Rebels opened scoring with a pair of first-quarter touchdowns. Freehold cut the lead to 14-7 at halftime but was outscored, 27-14, in the second half. Howell’s Nick Chambers had a pair of rushing touchdowns, and Nasiem Brantley caught a pair for the Rebels. Quarterback Edwin Morales III threw for 261 yards and two touchdowns.
Howell’s girls’ soccer team had a pair of wins last week, defeating Marlboro High School, 2-1, Sept. 15 and shutting out Brick Memorial High School, 2-0, Sept. 17.
Manalapan
Manalapan High School’s football team shut out Southern Regional, 41-0, in a Sept. 16 game at Manalapan. Naim Mayfield got things started for the Braves with a 62-yard punt return for a touchdown in the first quarter. Chris Maksimk then scored both a rushing and receiving touchdown, as Manalapan cruised to the victory. Quarterback Luke Corcione threw for three touchdowns to go along with his 118 passing yards.
The boys’ soccer team tied Middletown High School North, 2-2, Sept. 17 and the girls’ team shut out Howell, 3-0, Sept. 13 before exploding for six goals against Freehold Sept. 15 and eight goals against Middletown North Sept. 16.
Marlboro
Marlboro defeated Pinelands Regional High School, 41-27, on the gridiron in a Sept. 16 game at Pinelands. The Mustangs never trailed in the game, taking a quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Cameron Caorsi led the way for Marlboro with 306 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns. Quarterback Jared Wright was 10-of-15 passing for 107 yards and a touchdown.
On Sept. 17, Marlboro defeated Middletown High School South, 4-1, in boys’ soccer. The girls’ team started the week off with a 5-0 victory over Raritan High School Sept. 14 before losing, 2-1, to Howell the following day.
