FREEHOLD – Each of Monmouth County Historical Association’s five historic house museums, together with the museum at 70 Court St., will be open free of charge in celebration of Smithsonian magazine’s 12th annual Museum Day Live! on Saturday, Sept. 24. This is the last weekend to visit the historic house museums before they close for the season.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for a family to spend the day touring the museum and each of our historic house museums,” said Dr. Evelyn C. Murphy, Director. “The five houses are all located within 10 to 15 miles of the museum and docents in each of the facilities can tell the important role each played in Monmouth County history.” The Museum recently opened an exhibition on the Battle of Monmouth, That Memorable Sabbath-day: The Battle of Monmouth in Drawings, Paintings, and Prints, and the Taylor-Butler House in Middletown has a special exhibition, Faces From Our Past: Portraits From the Permanent Collection.
A Museum Day Live! ticket can be downloaded at Smithsonian.com/museum day. Visitors who present the Museum Day Live! ticket will gain free admission at each of the museums for Sept. 24.
“Monmouth County Historical Association’s historic house museums offer interested residents an opportunity to learn more about Monmouth County at each of our locations,” the Director said. “The Smithsonian’s Museum Day is a wonderful time for people to enjoy learning about our county.”
