Autumn has officially arrived but the fall season has been in full blast this month.
So get out and enjoy the change of seasons and check out some of these scholastic events in our area.
The Six Flags Wild Safari Invitational, a cross-country meet that has attracted a ton of schools from all parts of New Jersey as well as New York and Pennsylvania, will be held on the grounds of the park in Jackson this Saturday, Sept. 24.
The are a total of 22 races, ranging from boys’ and girls’ varsity to boys’ and girls’ freshman divisions. The first race goes off at 9 a.m. and the final race begins at 1:58 p.m.
Among the local high schools participating in the races are Colts Neck, Edison, Manalapan, Monroe, North Brunswick, St. John Vianney and Woodbridge.
Moving from the cross-country paths to the football fields…….
The Keyport football team, is off to a 2-0 start and will entertain Mater Dei this Saturday, Sept. 24, in Keyport. Kick off is slated for 12 noon.
One of the top teams from the Shore Conference, Manalapan, will take the ride up Route 9 north and clash with one of the stronger programs in the Greater Middlesex Conference, Old Bridge, tomorrow evening at 7 in Old Bridge.
Speaking of strength, the top-ranked team in New Jersey last fall and among the best again this season, Middletown South, brings its 2-0 record to Manasquan on Saturday, Sept., 24 for a 1 p.m. game. The home side awaits with its 2-0 record and with intentions to knock off its highly ranked visitor.
In a key Greater Middlesex Conference boys’ soccer game today, Sept. 22, at 3:45 p.m., Monroe, which is off to a 5-0 start, heads to Metuchen to meet a 2-1-2 Saint Joseph team that is itching to pull off the upset.
The theme of the upset continues on Saturday, Sept. 24, when the top-ranked girls’ soccer team in the state, Colts Neck, is home to Freehold Township at 10 a.m. Colts Neck awaits at 1-0-1 while the visitor pays a call with a 3-1-1 record.
