The eighth annual Walk for Diane to raise funds that will provide screening mammograms, diagnostic ultrasounds and genetic testing for women who otherwise could not afford it will be held on Oct. 23 at Buccleuch Park, at the intersection of Easton Avenue and Huntington Street, across from Saint Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick.
The 5K walk, sponsored by The Amy Feiman Behar Foundation for Cancer Prevention, starts at 9 a.m. Check in begins at 8 a.m.
The Walk for Diane honors Diane Goodwin, a South Brunswick resident who was 53 when she died of breast cancer in 2009. The timing of the walk coincides with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
To date, The Amy Foundation has raised approximately $550,000 and has helped more than 3,000 women without the necessary financial means to receive screening mammograms and follow-up diagnostic services when screenings have suggested the possibility of breast cancer.
WMGQ Magic 98.3 FM will be on site, providing music, games and prizes.
There is $15 registration fee; walkers are also asked to raise $70 – half the cost of a screening mammogram – by accessing the fundraising site, www.firstgiving.com/amyfoundation/8th-annual-walk-for-diane, which is also available through The Amy Foundation website, www.amyfoundation.org. Donations also can be made in support of specific walkers, a team or in general. All donations are tax-deductible.
Registration will close at midnight on Oct. 22, but on site registration will be available the day of the event.
