Chrystal Schivell,
League of Women Voters of the Princeton Area
For the past eight years, the League of Women Voters of the Princeton Area has worked collaboratively with Packet Media and Princeton Community TV to inform voters about their candidates. It has been an essential collaboration for the league and one that we all hope has been useful for voters.
This year, however, the New Jersey League has joined a national, online Voters’ Guide at www.VOTE411.org. Launched by the League of Women Voters Education Fund in October 2006 and introduced state by state, VOTE411 is a “one-stop-shop“ for election-related information. By entering this address, voters can find out if they are registered and the location of their polling place, see their ballot, and compare the responses of candidates to league questions. Voters will also find interpretations of ballot questions, including the pros and cons for supporting them. Included as well is a list of debates and, when a debate is videotaped, a link to the video. For most municipalities served by Packet Media, the information is complete.
Although the League will no longer publish its Voters’ Guides in print, it is grateful to Packet Media for its past generosity and its continuing publicity about league events. Princeton TV will continue to videotape league forums. The videos will be posted on www.VOTE411.org, at www.princetontv.org and at the league’s website www.lwvprinceton.org.
Video of the recent Princeton mayoral and school board forums will soon be available. On Thursday, Oct. 20, 12th Congressional District Candidates Steven Uccio and Bonnie Watson Coleman will meet in a forum from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at The College of New Jersey in Ewing at the music building’s Mayo Hall. Video will follow.
The league urges voters to become informed and to vote.
