By Frank Mustac, Contributor
Following the recent resignation of Jim Davy from the Pennington Borough Council, resident Beverly Mills was selected through a unanimous vote by the Borough Council to take the vacant seat.
Mr. Davy, a Democrat, had served on the council since 2013. He is a former New Jersey Commissioner of Human Services, who also worked as administrator for Hopewell Township in the 1980s and early 1990s.
Ms. Mills, also a Democrat, is the director of the Mercer County Workforce Investment Board, which is tasked with guiding workforce programs and services in the county, in part, to respond to the changing workforce needs of businesses and additional skill development of workers.
She is also active with Hopewell Valley Historical Society and Friends of the Trenton Public Library, and is a trustee with the Stoutsburg Cemetery Association and the Trenton Museum Society
Ms. Mills will be filling Mr. Davy’s unexpired term on the Borough Council, which ends on December 31.
Ms. Mills is also running for a full three-year term on six-member Council. Her name will be on the Election Day ballot on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
Incumbent Councilman Charles “Chico” Marciante, also a Democrat, is running for reelection.
There are no Republican nominees for Pennington Borough Council.
In other Pennington news, the borough will be attempting to sell a liquor license, with a minimum bid of $175,000.
The type of license being offered for sale by the Borough is officially called a plenary retail consumption license. The liquor license would be restricted to restaurants that seat at least 60 people and offer table service by a waiter or waitress, from a menu.
In late September, the license sale was advertised in local publications. All potential bidders must submit completed State of New Jersey Alcoholic Beverage Control license application forms and all supporting documentation to the Pennington Borough Municipal Clerk no later than 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15.
Sealed bids received from applicants for the license will likely be opened sometime in February 2017.
