EAST BRUNSWICK – Patrol units responded to the Brunswick Square Mall on Route 18 on the report of a male who was allegedly carrying a handgun and identifying himself as a law enforcement officer but refused to provide identification to mall security personnel when requested.
Ptl. Justin Schlusselfeld reportedly located Christopher Weakland, 20, of Rahway, with an airsoft pistol in his waistband along with handcuffs while walking through the mall on Oct. 5, according to information provided by the East Brunswick Police Department.
The airsoft pistol, which resembled a Glock model 26, was allegedly located in the vehicle after Weakland reportedly put the airsoft pistol in his vehicle prior to police arrival, according to police.
Weakland was charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer, possession of an imitation firearm and possession of a prohibited device (handcuffs). He was processed and released on his own recognizance.
