The Jewish Community Center of Middlesex County, 1775 Oak Tree Rd., Edison, announces Michael Aaron Rockland, Ph.D., Professor and Chair, Department of American Studies, Rutgers University, will present “The Jersey Joke: Its Long and Complicated History” at 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 22.
Dr. Rockland will discuss the idea that New Jersey has long been the whipping boy of New York City and suffered from something of an inferiority complex. However, Bruce Springsteen, the Sopranos and other people of inventive and creative prominence more recently have made it “cool” to be from New Jersey.
This program is funded by the Horizons Speakers Bureau of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities, and is free and open to the community as space allows. For questions or to register, please call the JCC at 732-494-3232.
