Route 27 will be closed for bridge replacement project

SOUTH BRUNSWICK – The New Jersey Department of Transportation (DOT) announced a weekend detour of Route 27 for the start of the Carter’s Brook and Ten Mile Run Tributary culvert replacements project in Franklin Township and South Brunswick.

Beginning at 9 p.m. on Oct. 14 and continuing through 6 a.m. on Oct. 17, DOT’s contractor, Montana Construction Corp., will close and detour Route 27 to install a temporary bridge at Carter’s Brook for the start of the culvert replacement work. The temporary bridge will be constructed adjacent to Route 27 and is expected to remain in place for approximately three months, according to a statement prepared by DOT.

Once the temporary bridge is in place, Route 27 will be reopened Monday morning, Oct. 17, with Route 27 southbound shifted onto the newly constructed bridge, according to the statement. Route 27 northbound will be temporarily shifted onto the southbound side of the road to allow work on the northbound lane. Once construction on the northbound lane is complete, northbound traffic will be returned, allowing work to continue on the southbound lane of the bridge. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained during construction.

The expected detours are as follows:

From Route 27 northbound, motorists traveling northbound on Route 27 will be directed to make a right onto Promenade Boulevard and make a left onto Route 1 north. From Route 1 north, motorists will make a left onto Finnegans Lane. From Finnegans Lane, motorists will travel back onto Route 27.

From Route 27 southbound, motorists traveling southbound on Route 27 will be directed to make a left onto Finnegans Lane and make a right onto Route 1 south. From Route 1 south, motorists will make a right onto Promenade Boulevard. From Promenade Boulevard, motorists will travel back onto Route 27.

The $4 million federally-funded Carter’s Brook and Ten Mile Run Tributary culvert replacement project is expected to be completed by early 2018. The two culvert replacements will occur in stages, with the Carter’s Brook culvert work occurring first. At a later date, the culvert replacement of Ten Mile Run Tributary will require a detour of Route 27.
