Ocean County Historical Society, 26 Hadley Ave., Toms River, will hold a presentation by Kevin Pace at 2 p.m. on Nov. 6.
A member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla since 1976, Kevin now conducts vessel safety checks throughout the Jersey Shore area and is also presently assisting personnel at the Coast Guard station on the Manasquan Inlet with their historic display.
Learn how the U.S. Coast Guard, with its goal of saving lives at sea as well as enforcing maritime laws, got its name in 1915. Kevin will focus on the history of the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service formed in 1790 by Alexander Hamilton, the U.S. Life Saving Service which had its start at the Jersey Shore, and the U.S. Lighthouse Service.
