Police: Pedestrian struck by van still hospitalized

MIDDLETOWN — A woman who was struck by a van last week is still in the hospital.

The Middletown Township Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian who was struck around 9:10 p.m. on Oct. 13 at the intersection of Route 36 and Seventh Street, according to a statement prepared by the police department.

The pedestrian, identified as Jennifer Smith, 49, of Belford, was struck by a van traveling eastbound, police said. Smith was later flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by the New Jersey State Police. She is still hospitalized.

The driver of the van, Robert L. Nankervis, 61, of Atlantic Highlands, was charged with DWI, according to police. He was processed and released on a summons complaint.
