Burn-the-Bird Black Friday Zumbathon will take place from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Nov. 25, at the Reformed Church of Metuchen, 150 Lake Ave. Doors will open at 11 a.m.
Several of New Jersey’s best Zumba instructors will lead the dancing in an effort to raise money to pay for the front steps on Franklyn Place and other repairs to the historic building across from Tommy’s Pond. No dance experience is necessary.
The church has been a part of the community since the mid-19th Century. The cornerstone of the original church building was first dedicated in 1858 on the southwest corner of Amboy Avenue and Graham Avenue. That building was completely destroyed in a dramatic fire on Nov. 30, 1948. The church was soon relocated and rebuilt in its current location, at the corner of Lake Avenue and Franklyn Place. The church is now organizing a capital campaign to raise money for repairs to the aging structure.
Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. To purchase a ticket in advance, email [email protected] or call or text to 908-510-9815. For more information, call the church office from Tuesday through Friday, from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., at 732-548-2463.
