The council on Monday voted to pay $3,874 to the lawyer for Planet Princeton to cover a portion of the legal bills that the site had incurred in a public records lawsuit against the municipality earlier this year.
Planet Princeton’s Krystal Knapp had sued in March seeking records outlining response protocols between the municipal police department and Princeton University’s Department of Public Safety. The town initially denied her records request, only to change its mind.
The university, however, took up a case that went to state Superior Court, where a judge in July ordered the release of some but not all of the records that Ms. Knapp had wanted. She was entitled to legal fees.
On Oct.12, she signed off on a settlement agreement with the town. On her site last week, Ms. Knapp reported the settlement with the municipality and that the university had agreed to pay $6,500 to her attorney, Walter Leurs.
