SOUTH BRUNSWICK – A 29-year-old man from Georgia was killed in a collision on Route 1 on Nov. 8.
An investigation by officers from the South Brunswick Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau and detectives from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that at 9:22 p.m., a 2005 Volvo tractor trailer, driven by Nohemi Farfan, 45, of Baytown, Texas, was headed northbound on Route 1.
The tractor trailer struck a 2016 Ford Transit Connect, being driven by John Jermill Williams, 29, of Hampton, Georgia, at the intersection of Raymond Road. The Ford Transit Connect was crossing over Route 1 from the northbound Raymond Road jug handle, according to information provided by Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief Raymond Hayducka of the South Brunswick Police Department.
The collision caused the front seat passenger in Williams’ vehicle to be ejected onto the roadway. That passenger, a 17-year-old male from Philadelphia, was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) in New Brunswick. The passenger is listed in critical condition, according to officials.
Williams was taken by EMS to University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 10:44 p.m, police said.
Farfan was taken to RWJUH, where she was treated and released.
The collision forced the tractor trailer to come to rest on top of the divider, straddling both the northbound and southbound lanes. Route 1 was closed in both directions from Route 522 to Ridge Road from 9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m., police said.
EMS units from the Kendall Park, Monmouth Junction and Plainsboro First Aid Squads, along with paramedics from RWJUH, were at the scene. In addition, the Kingston Fire Department and New Jersey Department of Transportation responded to the crash.
The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed, officials said.
