Hopewell Valley Soccer Association results – Week 9

Last weekend, the Hopewell Valley Soccer Association held its ninth week of games for the Fall 2016 season.
The following is a submitted collection of the weekend’s results. 
Division 3 Boys 
In a very strong performance, DeSimone Orthodontics defeated Jack’s Nursery in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs by a score of 1-0, and moves on to the semifinals next weekend.
Scoring the only goal for DeSimone was Mike Moran, on a well-placed shot late in the first half. Anchoring the defensive effort was goalie Herbert Carr, who continued to make one spectacular save after another throughout the entire game to ensure the shutout.
Leading the aggressive defense consistently was Emi Fernandez, Dylan Drift, Jacob Brown, Colin Szustakowski and Bradley Cohen, who all made several critical defensive plays particularly in the second half to keep the opponent off the scoreboard.
Running a strong midfield throughout the game to support offensive efforts was Jackson Pfau, Joshua Kohlhepp and Louis Azara, while Emerson Hoagland, Aaron Nulman, and Michael Stroman kept the pressure on offense throughout the game with several close scoring opportunities.
Han Kim defended the goal for Jack’s through the entire game. Mike Moran scored a goal against Jack’s in the first half. Jack’s fought in the second half but DeSimone’s goalkeeper was impenetrable.
Stellitano defeated Carnegie Cat Clinic by a score of 2-1 for the Pre-Inter-County League Championship.
On Saturday, Stellitano faced a tough competitor and came away with hard-fought win. Richie Keifer led off the scoring with a blistering, arching shot from 30 yards out to beat the Cat Clinic goalie. Not to be outdone by his brother, Eddie Keifer started a run in his own team’s penalty box, up the left sideline, and blasted the ball into the back of the Cat Clinic net.
At striker, Larry Kennedy extended the Cat Clinic defense, working with a combination of Corban Ballek and Andrew Sagotsky in applying constant pressure upfront.
The midfield of Vitor Fontes Nichi, Simeon DaPonte, Mike Kennedy and Oliver Licciardi helped Stellitano keep control of the game.Ben Licciardi, back from injury, played a strong defensive midfield, aiding the back line of Teddy Franzino and Eddie Keifer, as the swarming Stellitano defense made it hard for Cat Clinic to get many good looks at the goal.
Byrce Meccage came up big again and turned away the few shots that Cat Clinic had at goal.
Jonathan Sharma played goalie for Carnegie Cat Clinic and blocked many goal attempts. Miko Kubiak, Ben Veale and Nathan Lee played hard on the defense line meeting the opponent’s offense with good skills throwing the ball back to midfield and the CCC offense line.
On the offensive line, the Carnegie Cat Clinic team had Victor Polverejan, Ben Decare, Dan Polverejan and JC Perez.During the second half of the game, after a long battle, Cameron Phillips passed the ball to Dan Polverejan, who scored a goal for the Carnegie Cat Clinic.
Congratulations to Stellitano for a strong Pre-ICL season and coming away with the title.
Jack’s Nursery & Landscaping won against Ewing 3 on Saturday with a final score 4-0.
Ewing 3’s goalie was strong and quick blocking many shots made by Jack’s team which went into the first half with just one goal on the board by Dominic Chila.
In the second half, there were three additional goals scored for Jack’s Nursery by Mason Scall, David Sigman and Derek Van Brunt. 
Division 3 Girls 
On Saturday, in the Inter County League championship, the HVSA Blue Bull Exterminators defeated Hopewell Express, after a 0-0 regulation tie, by a score of 3-1 in penalty kicks.
The match was very even, as both teams had scoring opportunities, but were stopped by solid defense and goal keeping.
The HVSA Blue Bulls offense was led by Amanda Flanders, Chelsea Kent, Iris Lautermilch, Sierra Mitchell and Sonia Tenbarge, with the defense supported by Piper Brant, Kirsten Southall, Manvi Shah and Hailey Addonizio.
Keepers Lily Ryan and Carly Brant held the clean sheet during regulation.
On Sunday, the HVSA Blue Bull Exterminators defeated Jack’s Nursery and Landscape by 3-0.
The first half ended in a scoreless tie, as each team played well, controlling the ball and looking for the counter attack. The second half saw scores for HVSA Blue by Carly Brant, Sierra Mitchell on a clean shot served from a corner kick, and by Chelsea Kent.
Iris Lauthermilch, Amanda Flanders, Sonia Tenbarge, and Manvi Shah controlled the midfield, with Hailey Addonizio, Kirsten Southall and Piper Brant solidifying defense.
HVSA’s clean sheet was due to the tremendous keeping skills demonstrated by Lily Ryan, Manvi Shah, and Sonia Tenbarge.
Jack’s Greenhouse & Nursery lost their pre-ICL tournament game Saturday to Robbinsville-2 in a closely-matched game that went from a 1-1 time at the end of regulation time into a double overtime situation, followed by a shootout.
Tessa Caputo had the only regulation goal. Scoring for Jack’s in the shootout were Anna Gabe, Zoe Dec and Jaelyn Krin. Despite a stellar performance, goalie Nataile Kasprzyk was beaten by only one shot that gave Robbinsville the win.
Jack’s then went on to play their last regular season game Sunday against Royal Blue. The teams battled back and forth to a 0-0 tie at halftime. Goaltender Sinyi Li, assisted buy Jaelyn Krin and Lucy Antal on defense, turned away all of blue’s offensive charges. The second half saw Blue gaining an advantage to best Jack’s 0-3.

On Saturday, the Dahlia Floral Concepts Pink Panthers lost 3-1 to Robbinsville.
The hard-fought game ended with a shootout, with Taylor Wert scoring for the Pink Panthers. Mia Govantes and Rose Andreski both played very strong defense for the Pink Panthers.
The next day, the Pink Panthers lost their game against the HVSA Hopewell Express team 7-0. Ayla Mauk had several shots on goal that were stopped by the goalie. Ellie Lamond also had a strong game. 
Division 2 Boys 
Regent Floor Covering faced off against Union Line Garage on Saturday, winning by a final Score of 6-3.
Conor O’Boyle scored one goal, Finn Garner scored three goals and Owen Lengle scored two goals. Patrick Shine played a good defense position.
On Saturday, Pennington Quality Market faced Northfield Bank in the first round of playoffs.
The PQM offense played a spectacular game, with goals scored by Henry West, Aiden Luciano, Gavin McDonough (2), Dylan Yasher, James Todd and Giuseppe Panzitta. Aiden Luciano, Dylan Yasher, Erik Petrin and Wyatt Russell made great assists.
Outstanding defense by Samuel Dede, Erik Petrin and Chris Miliaresis combined with the tremendous goaltending by Dylan Yasher, Aiden Luciano, Gavin McDonough and Erik Petrin limited Northfield to two goals.
Pennington Quality Market defeated Northfield Bank, 7-2, and will advance to the next round of playoffs.
Team Soccer Post played a great first playoff game on Sunday against team J&V Trophies and won 3-1.
While Mikey Vagott and Connor Keyes scored our goals, but there was outstanding teamwork with all players contributing in key positions.
Notable plays included a tremendous curve ball from a corner kick that gave Mikey his second goal. As in previous games, there were some notable standouts during the game. 
Division 2 Girls 
The Red Lions and Purtuc Dental played to a 2-2 tie on Saturday.
The Red Lions jumped out to an early lead on a goal by Eve Szeliga. The Red Lions went ahead 2-1 on a goal by Ava Courtney in the third quarter thanks to good defense by Shreya Mookherjee and Sophia Pellegrino. The Red Lions allowed Purtuc Dental to score only two goals thanks to Gerise Kelly and good goalkeeping by Grace Sullivan.
The Red Lions lost a tough 4-3 contest on Sunday to PQM Flower Shop. With the Red Lions down 3-0 in the third quarter Meg Adelman netted a goal to spark a Red Lions comeback. Two Ava Courtney goals later and the game was tied. The comeback was sparked by good offense by Elizabeth Myers and Rosemary Stout.
For PQM, Kaelyn Gopaul, Olivia Friedrich, Angelyn Li and Sonia Coppisetti took turns guarding the net, as Gianna Azara netted the team’s goals. 
HVS TRAVEL 
U13 Girls 
The Heat U13 Girls won their last regular season JAGS League game by 8-0 against the New Jersey Crew on Sunday after a tough loss to Bordentown on Friday night, 1-3.
The Bordertown game was tight and mostly fought in the midfield at Twin Pines Turf Field. The Heat tied the game on a penalty kick by Ella Zimmerman after a foul in the goalie box.
Unfortunately Bordentown was able to score two more goals in the second half. Sarah Yancey and Gillian Lee had several saves in goal.
In the 8-0 win against New Jersey Crew, Erin Popik, Ellie Hill, Gillian Lee, Samantha Shaw, Eva Guerino (2) Devin Mullowney and Sofia Venezia scored goals. 
U12 Girls 
The U12 Blaze travelled to East Brunswick on Sunday and came home with a 7-1 win over the Flames.
Julie Somers came out hot scoring their first two goals, each shot high and out of the goalie’s reach. Casey von Oehsen created plays all game, sending assists to both Charlotte Kavanaugh and Julie, who netted a third goal for hat trick.
Midfielder Emme Muller sent in two corner kicks leading to two goals, one by Ava D’Alessandro and one by Sarah Javick.With the game easily in hand, goalkeeper Christina Zelin, who neatly handled any East Brunswick attack, came on the field and scored their final goal.
Caileigh Ross and Naomi Dede contributed offensively while Sarah, Brooke Hutchison and Juliana Silva controlled the back line sealing the victory. 
U11 Girls 
On Sunday, the HV 06G travel team Nor’Easters won 5-1 against the Readington Pride.
Husna Khan with three goals did impressive offensive work, Tierney Mullowney with one goal and Olivia Chila with one goal. The Nor’Easter defensive wall continues to limit scoring from opponents and the mid-field continues to move the ball with solid passing. 
U11 Boys 
The Hopewell Boys U11 Riptides put together a complete team effort to earn a hard-fought 4-1 victory over Cranford.
The Riptides crisp passing allowed them to dominate possession and deliver the win. Once again, the Riptides got tough defense from Alex Romano and Rex Peters and solid goalkeeping from Chris King. Additionally, Dean Mantuano and Lukas Ansari helped the Riptides control the midfield.
Garrett Wille scored two goals while Charlie Stocks-Natalias and Brandon Napoleon each had one. Assists came from Napoleon (2), Josh Temple and Max Matticoli. Lucas Medina and Josh Varughese delivered solid offense to support the team. 
U10 Girls 
The U10 Girls Reign beat the Branchburg Bombers by a score of 7-2 on Saturday.
Shelby Ruf (2), Megan D’Alessandro, Clara Mayer, Sofia Swindell, Charlotte Barnes and Caroline Sirolly scored goals.
On Sunday, the U10 Girls Reign beat the Hillsborough Raiders with a final score of 4-3. Shelby Ruf, Caroline Sirolly, Emily Fang and Charlotte Barnes scored goals.
The Reign finished their season undefeated with a 10-0 record. 
U9 Boys 
In an action packed game on Sunday, the Wildfires beat the Titanes SC Barracudas in a 5-0 shutout.
Both teams battled back and forth the first three quarters with no score.Strong defensive plays came from Stephen Bates, JJ John and Noah Calhoun, keeping the Barracudas from scoring.
The Wildfires really heated things up in the fourth quarter with Ryan Tackacs scoring three goals back to back. Mario Radzicki and Tyler Ansari followed by scoring two more impressive goals. Christian Heide, Bennett Patterson and AJ Gray brought great offensive pressure.
The Wildfires worked very hard as a team and were incredibly proud of their 5-0 win. 
U8 Boys 
On Saturday, the Hopewell Hurricanes defeated West Windsor Plainsboro South to improve their record to 8-0. Much of the first half had West Windsor playing strong defense, but the Hurricanes’ offense could not be stopped.
Dylan Kawalek scored first by dribbling past the keeper and rocketing the ball into the net. Within minutes, Logan Gonsalves sprinted between two WWPS defenders and increased the score 2-0. In the second half, Trevor Baratta forced the WWPS keeper out of the net and launched the ball over his head. Minutes later, Baratta scored again increasing the Hurricanes’ lead to 4-0. Archie Seas was relentless on offense, which paid off when he sent the ball soaring past the keeper, increasing the score to 5-0.
With minutes remaining, West Windsor passed the ball and beat the Hopewell keeper to put one on the scoreboard, but the Hurricanes quickly retaliated when Dylan Kawalek scored his second of the game.
Insane goalkeeping by Jack Pachtinger and Archie Seas, the nonstop hustle of Jaxson DeRossett and Jacob Berman on offense and the aggressive defense of Michael Cappucci, Snayhin Sharma, Patrick Slajchert and Ethan Garber brought this team to victory with the final score of 6-1. 
