Michael J. Wasko, a native of Sayreville, was recently appointed superintendent of schools for the Hanover Township K-8 School District. He began his position on July 1.
Wasko is a graduate of Sayreville War Memorial High School, where he ran track. He enrolled at Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) in Teaneck on a track and field scholarship, eventually being named a graduate assistant coach there. He later received his Master’s in Business Administration from FDU.
Wasko was also part of the U.S. Olympics four-man bobsled team in 1988, missing a bronze medal by .002 seconds.
Wasko joined the Hanover school district 17 years ago after being hired from Paramus. He served as assistant principal and principal of Memorial Junior School in Whippany, part of the Hanover school district.
Wasko resides in Bridgewater with his wife Sherri and their three sons. He is the son of Michael and Joan Wasko of Sayreville.
