Faw takes over as Bears’ girls’ basketball coach

The East Brunswick High School girls’ basketball team has a new coach, and he’s working the Bears’ own backyard.

Kevin Faw, an eighth-grade social studies teacher in the district since 2014, was approved by the Board of Education last month and was on the job Nov. 21.

A Quincy, Washington, native, Faw began his coaching career in 2007 as an assistant boys’ basketball coach at Mead High School near Seattle, where he remained for three years.

In 2011, Faw assumed the same position at Shorewood High School, which is also near Seattle, where he spent the next two years before being elevated to head coach in 2013. He was also an assistant boys’ baseball coach at Shorewood from 2011 to 2014.

Faw moved to New Jersey later in 2014 and began teaching in East Brunswick. He also served as assistant boys’ basketball coach at Middlesex County College for the 2014-15 season.

Faw succeeds Keith Lane, who stepped down last season after three years at the helm. During his short tenure, Lane’s teams had a combined 59-17 record, and the 2015-16 edition won the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament championship.
