OLD BRIDGE — Rumors swirling around social media about euthanizing two dogs at the Old Bridge Animal Shelter prompted outcries from various rescue and volunteer groups in the area.
Mayor Owen Henry said some of the statements made on social media were false statements. He assured those groups and residents at a Township Council meeting on Nov. 21 that the two dogs in question will not be euthanized at the end of the month.
Henry said the two dogs have been at the shelter for more than a year and have had a history of not being so friendly.
“I’m being honest,” he told the people who came to the meeting.
Henry said residents need to think in the best interest of the two dogs. He said, more than anything, he would like to find good homes for the two dogs.
“We need to work together to find the right person [to adopt them],” he said.
The mayor said the administration will work with the staff and the volunteers to provide training and find good homes for the dogs.
