Dragonfly Multicultural Arts Center has announced its next production, the classic American play “Our Town,” will be presented at the Woodbridge Middle School auditorium.
Performances are scheduled for Dec. 10, 11, 16, 17 and 18, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.
The company, which had been performing in borrowed locations in Metuchen, said Woodbridge will be its new home base. This will be the theater’s first show in the township.
“Our Town,” a winner of the Pulitzer Prize for drama, is a portrait of the lives, loves and deaths of individuals in a small New Hampshire town in the early part of the 20th century, centered particularly on the stories of Emily Webb and her next-door neighbor George Gibbs. Dragonfly chose the play as a way to celebrate the small-town feel of Woodbridge Township, the company’s new home.
“Our Town” by Thornton Wilder, will be directed by Dragonfly Artistic Director Catherine LaMoreaux with directorial assistance by Dragonfly veteran Shauni Ramai of Colonia, who performed in Dragonfly’s “Arms and the Man” and “Matt & Ben.”
Performers include Rosemary Wall of Mountain Lakes (two-time NJACT nominee and performer in Dragonfly’s “Blithe Spirit”) as the Stage Manager; Anna Paone of New York City (“Arms and the Man,” “Talley’s Folly” and “The Coarse Acting Show”) as Emily Webb; and Nathaniel Tomb of Plainfield as George Gibbs. Woodbridge Township residents include Tangela Hamilton of Fords playing Mrs. Gibbs; Lexii Turk of Colonia playing Mrs. Soames and other parts; Nikita Gohel of Woodbridge; and Samantha Ayers of Fords.
During the show’s intermission, the Woodbridge Township Historic Preservation Commission will be displaying photographs in the school hallway of historic Woodbridge. The photos will show Woodbridge during the same time period covered in “Our Town.”
