CRANBURY: Tree lighting ceremony scheduled for Dec. 2

Cranbury’s Tree Lighting will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2 in the old firehouse and Memorial Park.
Dorothy Klotzbeacher – “Mrs. K”– will lead the singing at the tree lighting and will be accompanied by the Presbyterian Church Brass Choir. Mrs. K. has been leading the caroling outside the old firehouse since the 1990s when the tree was moved to Memorial Park. The tree was originally put in the gazebo in Village Park and decorated by the Woman’s Club with bulbs, balls, and bows. But vandalism forced the tree to be moved to Memorial Park.
The tree lighting tradition was started more than 60 years ago by the Cranbury Fire Company. Past ceremonies have attracted several hundred town residents.
Workshops will be presented by the Girl Scouts and Brownies at 6 p.m. in the new firehouse. Candy canes will be given to all the children.
The event is sponsored by the Woman’s Club of Cranbury. For additional information, contact the firehouse at 609-395-0633.
