The First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen will hold numerous Christmas events in December at its sanctuary and social center at 270 Woodbridge Ave., Metuchen.
An Advent Workshop will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Dec. 4 at the social center. The Christmas crafts workshop is free and open to adults and children. Attendees can enjoy making wreath and ornaments. Refreshments will be served, and attendees are encouraged to bring a treat to share. A Handbell Concert will take place at 4 p.m. on Dec. 17 at the church sanctuary. The Philadelphia Handbell Ensemble, under the direction of Brian Seeman, will present the special Christmas concert. There is no charge, but a freewill offering will be accepted.
A Lessons and Carols worship service featuring the church’s senior choir will be held at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 18 at the sanctuary. The traditional Advent service will feature scripture readings, handbells, harp, anthems and hymns.
A live nativity scene will be presented from 4-6:30 p.m. on Dec. 18 on the front lawn of church grounds. Confirmation students will present the live nativity scene of Jesus’ birth, which will include costumed participants and an area where animals can be pet. Cider and donut refreshments will be provided at no charge.
At the conclusion of the live nativity scene at 6 p.m., the church’s community carolers will sing Christmas carols under the front portico beside the nativity scene. Caroling will conclude at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by free hot chocolate and cookie refreshments.
A Christmas Eve family service and play, “A Christmas Story, Simply Told,” featuring the church’s youth members will be presented at 6 p.m., Dec. 24, at the sanctuary. A Christmas Eve candlelight service with the senior choir and a handbells presentation will be held at 11 p.m.
