SAYREVILLE — John and Julianne Perry first met in elementary school at St. Stanislaus Kostka School in Sayreville, where coincidentally, Julianne’s mother was John’s third and then fifth grade teacher.
They lost touch growing up and reconnected just as John was joining the U.S. Army. Julianne went to meet John again at his graduation from basic training, and they eventually were married, according to information posted on GoFundMe.com. Julianne and John celebrated their eighth anniversary in September and have two children.
John deployed twice in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart Medal, Bronze Star and many more.
On Nov. 12, Staff Sgt. John Perry of the 1st Cavalry Division and three others were killed in an attack carried out by a suicide bomber at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan.
St. Stainlaus Kostka Church held a special memorial service on Dec. 3 for the Perrys, as the family still has connections to Sayreville. Anyone interested in making a donation to the family should visit www.gofundme.com/jjperry.
