The roughly 40-minute lockdown of John Witherspoon School earlier today, triggered by a hoax phone call, was lifted shortly before 10:30 a.m., but police will remain at the school the rest of today, the district said.
“Police thoroughly searched the building and found no evidence of danger to students or staff,” Superintendent of Schools Stephen C. Cochrane wrote in an email to parents. “Police believe this phone call is a hoax, but as a precaution, they will maintain a presence at John Witherspoon Middle School for the remainder of the day and will continue to investigate this incident.”
He also said the middle school “and all other PPS schools will shelter in place for the remainder of the day.”
