EAST WINDSOR – It was standing room only as Mayor Janice Mironov and the town council administered the oath for two newly promoted police officers at the township meeting on Dec. 6.
The room was packed with family, friends, colleagues and even retired police officers, as they came to show their support and respect for the accomplishments of the two highly decorated officers.
Officer Cory Paieda was promoted to lieutenant. He graduated from the Ocean County Police Academy in May 1998. He first served as a patrol officer in Lambertville police department before joining the East Windsor Police Department in February 2001.
During Officer Paieda’s time in East Windsor, he has served in the Uniform Services Division as a patrol officer, evidence technician, field training officer, secondary officer in charge and primary officer in charge. In September 2012, he was promoted to sergeant within the Uniform Services Division and in November 2015, he was assigned to the Investigative Services, where he served as the operations supervisor for the past year. He has achieved an associate of science degree from Raritan Valley Community College, a bachelor of science degree from Walden University and a master’s of administrative science degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Officer Paieda has previously been awarded the 10-year honorable service award, a Samaritan medal for being named Police Officer of the Year, four unit citation medals, a life-saving medal, an honorable service medal, four awards of merit, three education achievement awards, and numerous letters of recognition. He will be assigned to the Uniform Services Division as the operations commander.
Police Chief Harry E. Marshall explained that promotions in the police department often create a ripple effect. As officers get promoted through the ranks, new positions become available. As such, Officer Ryan Mattek was also promoted to sergeant.
Prior to becoming a police officer, Sgt. Mattek served in the U.S. Air Force and is a veteran of Operation Southern Watch and Operation Enduring Freedom. He graduated from Cape May county police academy in January 2002 and formerly served as police office with Chester Township. Sgt. Mattek has been with East Windsor Police Department since September 2003.
With the East Windsor Police Department, he has served in the Uniform Services Division as a police officer, field training officer and secondary officer in charge. In October 2011, he was assigned to the Investigative Services Division, where he has served as a detective for the past five years. He also serves as evidence technician, firearms instructor and precision rifle operation operator. He has earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in administrative science from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Sgt. Mattek has been awarded the 10-year honorable service award, three unit citation medals, educational achievement medal, several awards of merit, and numerous letters of recognition from both his superior officers and the community. He will be assigned as a platoon supervisor in the Uniform Services Division.
The mayor highlighted the extraordinary accomplishments of officers Paieda and Mattek. She spoke about the high levels of training, and extensive education that one must achieve to get these opportunities.
