The Hightstown High School Drama Club will present four performances of “Scrooge!” a musical by Leslie Briscusse, Dec. 9-11 at the school.
“Yes, it’s not a play,” said Tallen Olsen, choral music and drama teacher at the school. “We decided to do a holiday musical this year and switch our normal dramatic play to the spring semester.”
“Scrooge!” follows the traditional Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” but with a very English feel. It follows closely the 1970s movie of the same title, starring Albert Finney. It contains the same Academy Award-nominated songs that garnered Mr. Briscusse the nominations.
In the script, the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge undergoes a profound experience of redemption over the course of a Christmas Eve night, after being visited by the ghost of his former partner Jacob Marley and the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future.
The show features the student members of HHS Drama Club.
Performances are scheduled for Friday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 10, at both 2 and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students and senior citizens and $6 for children 12 and under. General seating and tickets are available at the door.
