The second annual Old Bridge Public Library Winter Carnival, set for 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 29 at the library main branch, Route 516 and Cottrell Road, will feature an appearance by Steve the Magic Conductor.
In addition to winter-themed crafts, games and refreshments for children and adults, guests will have the chance to win prizes and view a performance of “The Magic Conductor’s Reading Adventures” at 11 a.m. The story focuses on Steve, who has spent a long day out on the railroad. As he retires to the caboose for the evening to read one of his favorite books, he discovers not everything is as it seems. At first he doesn’t believe his eyes, but the audience reassures him that a mystery is unfolding right in front of them also. The interactive program, which is designed to get children ages 4-10 and their families excited about reading, combines theatre, storytelling, comedy, audience participation and magic.
The public is invited to attend. Admission is free of charge; however, guests are asked to bring a nonperishable food item for donation to the Old Bridge Food Pantry. Seating is limited. The “Magic Conductor” program is limited to 100 patrons.
