PLUMSTED – A resident of Burlington was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Route 528 in the early morning hours of Dec. 17.
Plumsted Police Chief Matthew Petrecca said officers responded at 5:46 a.m. and discovered that a vehicle had crashed into a utility pole near the intersection of Route 528 and Brookwood Drive.
Petrecca said the driver was identified as Charles J. Land, 64.
He said the New Egypt First Aid Squad and the New Egypt Volunteer Fire Company responded to the crash. Land was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, according to the chief.
According to an obituary posted online, Land was born and raised in Beverly, Burlington County. He had worked as a machinist for 33 years at the Lakehurst naval base. Land was a deacon at the Calvary Presbyterian Church in Riverton.
On Dec. 20, Petrecca said the cause of the crash remained under investigation by the police department.
