Playhouse 22 will hold open auditions for the musical “Grease” from 7-10 p.m. on Jan. 2 and 3 at the East Brunswick Community Arts Center, 721 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick.
Callbacks by invitation are scheduled to be held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 7.
The show dates are March 24-April 9 at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and Sundays at 3 p.m.
The show will be directed by Christian Carrara, with musical direction by Raymond Zipf and choreography by Raven Dunbar.
Bring an accurate and up-to-date schedule of potential conflicts, including work schedules, class schedules, vacations and other conflicts. Those auditioning should understand that too many conflicts could impact casting decisions.
Rehearsals are scheduled to start on Jan. 9. Rehearsals will range from three to four weekday nights, depending on cast conflicts.
The full cast will be required to attend every tech rehearsal starting 10 days before opening night.
Most of the characters are teenagers, however, the company is looking at a cast of those age 20-30 to play these roles. Teenagers are also encouraged to audition. Additionally, those trying out should understand that the stage version of “Grease” and the film version are not necessarily the same.
Prepare a short cut of a show tune that best shows the vocal abilities of the character(s) for which you are auditioning. Bring sheet music. Accompanist provided.
Everyone auditioning will be taught a short dance combination. Bring comfortable clothes and appropriate shoes to dance in (jazz shoes, character shoes). Partner work and lifts may be asked at callbacks.
