Fifteen musically-inclined students received high praise during the last Hillsborough Township Board of Education meeting, as district officials touted their recent selection to the Central Jersey Music Educators Association Region Chorus.
Superintendent Dr. Jorden Schiff took time out of his regular comments at the beginning of the meeting to praise the teens for their achievement, citing the higher than normal acceptance numbers this year.
“This is a great accomplishment. Historically, Hillsborough High School averages one or two student acceptances for this honor, so 15 is absolutely amazing,” he said.
Led by their director, Julianna LoBiondo, the students worked on their audition pieces well in advance of their try-out earlier this year.
The students that were accepted to the association’s mixed chorus were:
- Leena Baloch
- Erin Chang
- Julianna Ciccotelli
- Matt Conlon
- Jillian Cuzzolino
- Deepti Kumar
- Rebecca Letts
- Brandon Luckenbaugh
- Erin Mooney
- Lizzy Rommel
- Megha Sawhney
- Sruti Yanamandra
Of the 15 pupils chosen, both Rebecca Letts and Brandon Luckenbaugh earned a top 10 score in the region.
In addition, three students were selected for the Central Jersey Music Educators Association’s Treble Chorus: Lyra Koncsol, Maddi Sheehan and Maya Wagner.
The Central Jersey Music Educators Association Region Chorus will hold its annual choral concert on Sun, Jan. 29 from 3-5 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4.
