Hospital leader to chair American Heart Association 15th annual Garden State Go Red For Women® luncheon

ROBBINSVILLE- The American Heart Association recently announced that Stephern Allison, DHSc, PA, MBA, Vice President of Cardiovascular Services and Care Management at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, will serve as chair of the 15th annual Garden State Go Red For Women Luncheon scheduled for Friday, May 19, 2017 at the Westin Princeton at Forrestal Village in Princeton.

The Go Red For Women Luncheon is one of the premier women’s events in New Jersey focusing on cardiovascular health and wellness in women.  As a cornerstone piece of the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement, this social-educational event focuses attention on uniting women to prevent or survive the No. 1 and No. 5 killers of women – heart disease and stroke.  Nationally sponsored by Macy’s, this vibrant movement inspires women to make lifestyle changes, mobilize communities and shape policies to save lives.

Dr. Allison brings passion and great leadership to the Go Red For Women Luncheon and is dedicated to partnering together with the American Heart Association to engage local business and community leaders in empowering women to get informed about the risks of heart disease and stroke and to make healthy lifestyle changes.

Currently serving as Vice President of Cardiovascular Services and Care Management at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Dr. Allison was recently named one of the Network Journal’s 25 Influential Black Women in Business for 2016. The award honors women whose professional achievements have significantly impacted an industry or profession and who have also made an important contribution to their community.

Dr. Allison came to RWJ in 2013 as Assistant Vice President, Cardiovascular Services.  In 2015 she was promoted to the position of Vice President, Cardiovascular Services and Care Management.  As leader of RWJ’s Cardiovascular service line, she is responsible for ensuring the proper management of the annual operating budgets.  She works to engage staff at all levels of the organization and has earned the trust and respect of physician leaders.
“It’s time to Go Red for the women who are affected by heart disease and stroke every day,” said Dr. Allison.  “It’s through events such as the Garden State Go Red For Women Luncheon, that we can unite to prevent heart disease and stroke in our communities by educating women and empowering them to make healthy changes.”

Go Red for Women is the American Heart Association’s national movement to end heart disease and stroke in women.  Heart disease and stroke kill one in three women – more than all cancers combined.  The good news is that 80 percent of cardiac events can be prevented with education and lifestyle changes.  Women who Go Red live healthier lives.

“In the past 15 years, the Garden State Go Red For Women Luncheon has helped women in New Jersey take action and lead healthier lives,” observed Dr. Allison. “But there is still a need for more research and education for women’s heart and brain health.  The luncheon provides an opportunity to put our hearts into it to help prevent heart disease and stroke.”

The Go Red For Women Luncheon raises funds to support this lifesaving movement, supporting cutting-edge research, community programs and professional education focused on cardiovascular health.
