Emil Stephen Malovetz, 84, died peacefully on December 24, 2016 at home in Columbus, NJ. He had lived previously for 15 years in Plainsboro, NJ.
Born and raised in Carteret, NJ, Emil was a 1950 graduate of Carteret High School. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, proudly serving on the USCGC Campbell. Over the years, he was employed by several companies, most notably beginning with the Regina Company in Rahway NJ and retiring as Vice President of Purchasing with IEH Corporation in Manhattan. Following retirement Emil worked in real estate and was an award winning independent insurance broker.
Emil offered his time and talent to numerous community and charitable groups. For many years, he served as coach in the Carteret Little League, as well as the Babe Ruth League. Emil served on the Carteret Board of Education, was a member of the Carteret PBA and was an advisor for Junior Achievement. He was a supporter of the Sisters of the Cenacle Retreat House when it was in Highland Park, NJ and received the Regina Nostra Award from the Diocese of Metuchen for his work at St. Cecelia Parish in Monmouth Junction. Emil was a major supporter of the St. Charles Borromeo Annual Golf Classic benefiting Youth Ministry. A talented carpenter, he designed and created toys, furniture and ornaments.
He is survived by his wife Arlene Fedlam Malovetz whom he married on September 9, 1956. Together they enjoyed traveling all over the world and entertaining family and friends in their home.
Additionally he is survived by three children, Kathleen Lentini and her husband Keith of Holland, PA, Jeffrey Malovetz and his wife Debbie of McKinney, TX and Msgr. Gregory Malovetz, pastor of St. Charles Borromeo RC Church, Montgomery Township,NJ; his grandchildren Blake Malovetz (Christine); Chelsea Barreras (Michael); Samantha Gray (Will); Cassie Lentini and Tyler Malovetz; a great grandchild Logan Emil Barreras and two great grandchildren to be born in 2017. He is also survived by his brothers Jerry Malovetz (Paulette) and William Malovetz both of Columbus NJ, as well as numerous family members and friends including his cousin Judy Broehl (Rob) of New Egypt, NJ.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 30th at 11:00 AM in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 47 Skillman Road, Skillman NJ. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral.
To honor his memory, the family suggests donations be made to Samaritan Healthcare and Hospice (SamaritanNJ.org) in gratitude for the extraordinary care and comfort they provided.
