When East Windsor Mayor Janice Mironov asked at Tuesday’s annual reorganization meeting if there were any more nominations for the position of mayor, it drew chuckles from the audience., That’s because East Windsor has had the same mayor for more than two decades. And to kick of 2017, once again Ms. Mironov was nominated for the position, this time by Councilman John Zoller and seconded by Councilman Perry Shapiro., “Please join me in recognizing Janice for what she has done for the township for these many years and what we can expect her to continue to do as mayor for the coming year,” said Mr. Zoller. “Mayor Mironov has shown her dedication to the betterment of the township, it’s residents and businesses”, “One of the reasons we have one of the most successful towns in this state is because we have one of the hardest working mayors as well,” said Mr. Shapiro., Hearing no other nominations, Mayor Mironov was awarded the gavel for the 22nd straight year. Assemblyman Dan Benson administered the oath of office to her., As in past years, the annual reorganization meeting invocation was provided by Rabbi Jay Kornsgold of Beth El Synagogue. Followed by the Flag Salute, Harvey Bailey of East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company #1 led the room in singing the “Star Spangled Banner.”, The Mercer County Clerk read the certificate of election for Denise Daniels, who was officially elected into town council in November’s special election, after filling the seat vacated by the death of council member Hector Duke in December 2015. The oath of office was then administered to Ms. Daniels by Mercer County Sherriff Jack Kemler. And with that, Mayor Mironov requested that the clerk complete the roll call for the East Windsor 2017 Town Council, which remains unchanged from 2016., Councilman Peter Yeager opened the nominations for deputy mayor by nominating Perry Shapiro stating, “I can’t think of another person who represents the ideals and the strength of our community.”, That nomination was seconded by Councilman Marc Lippman, and the oath of office was administered to Mr. Shapiro by Mayor Mironov., The mayor and council unanimously approved the appointments of David E. Orron as Township Attorney, Jeffrey Rubin as Township Prosecutor, Robert M. Schwartz as Township Public Defender, and Edward H. Herman as Township Municipal Court Judge., In addition, the following council members were appointed as liaisons to the following committees:, Mayor Mironov to the Clean Communities Advisory Committee, the Economic Development Committee, liaison to the fire companies and rescue squads, as well as an alternate on the RISE board of directors, Deputy Mayor Shapiro to the Health Advisory Board, the Planning Board, and liaison to the fire companies and rescue squads., Councilman Rosenberg to the Clean Communities Advisory Committee, the Commission on Aging, and the RISE board of directors., Councilwoman Daniels to the Commission on Aging and the Health Advisory Board, Councilman Zoller to the Economic Development Committee, the Environmental Commission, and the Municipal Alliance Committee., Councilman Yeager to the Local Assistance Board, the Recreation Commission, and the Municipal Alliance Committee., Councilman Lippman as Liaison to the Fire Companies., Mayor Mironov took time out to recognize several town officials that had come out for the meeting, stating that it is the efforts of those individuals and their collaborative efforts in working for the benefit of our town that make East Windsor the town that it is., The mayor also thanked the many volunteers who take part in various committees and boards stating, “We do a lot of outreach and are fortunate enough to have many citizens who have become involved in our government and given a great deal of their time, their skills to help make our government run better, and helping to provide support and ideas and helping provide implementation for the various agendas for the boards and committees of East Windsor.”, The final three presentations were saved for three department heads who have served East Windsor Community for many years. Director of Public Works, Bill Askenstadt, Police Chief Harry E. Marshall and Municipal Court Administrator Claudia Rosenberg all retired at the end of the year., The meeting concluded with a word from each council member as they expressed both reflection of the prior year, as well as hope and great expectations for 2017.
