The soul felt its worth this season as East Brunswick Hadassah volunteers worked with members, friends of the community, Spotswood’s Immaculate Conception CCD volunteers and East Brunswick High School (EBHS) students to raise money for cancer research at the Hadassah Holiday Gift Wrap. Inspired by their teacher, Audrey Nelson Domond, many EBHS students attended the Hadassah Gift Wrap Workshop.
All volunteers wrapped gifts at Brunswick Square Mall, East Brunswick. Barbara Pollak and Helene Grynberg co-chaired the event and coordinated teams of volunteers who worked every hour the mall was open Dec. 4-24.
Hadassah wishes to thank the entire community for its generous donations. Many people brought packages purchased on the Internet or in other stores for us to wrap. Local businesses supported Hadassah by recommending that their customers get giftwrapping and boxes at our booth.
Hadassah’s robust medical research is shared with the world. Hadassah discovered the BRCA I and BRCA II gene in its pioneering stem-cell research, which has saved countless lives. Groundbreaking gains were made in breast cancer, colon cancer and testicular cancer.
East Brunswick Hadassah distributed information on cancer awareness to its customers at the Holiday Gift Wrap. One customer reported to the volunteers that this literature alerted her to the benefits of self-examination. Because of it, she discovered a lump in her breast and was able to be successfully treated. All the funds raised at our gift-wrap event will go to cancer research.
Our East Brunswick chapter of Hadassah is proud of its many fundraisers, which have contributed to the Hadassah Medical Organization’s advanced treatments and cures for such diseases as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s, macular degeneration and diabetes.
Hadassah will raise money for cancer research again at its Valentine’s Day Gift Wrap in February and Mother’s Day Gift Wrap in May. For the latest news on Hadassah events, please “like” us on Facebook and type East Brunswick Hadassah in the search box.
To our members and friends in the community, we thank you all for your goodwill and generous support.
