The Jewish Community Center of Middlesex County (JCCMC) will be the host to Milton Heumann, Ph.D., who will present, “The Right to Privacy and Surveillance in Private and Public Locales,” at 1:30 p.m., Feb. 21, at 1775 Oak Tree Rd., Edison.
The discussion will explore public perceptions of privacy and video surveillance in 21st century America. Though much research and thought have been given to the issues of privacy and to a degree, surveillance, there is a lack of research addressing how the general public perceives the current state of surveillance in society and what should be done, if anything, about it. Heumann will report the results and speculate about the implications of six focus groups specifically examining attitudes toward video surveillance in public and private spheres as well as the workplace.
Heumann holds B.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in political science. He taught at the University of Michigan before joining Rutgers University in 1981.
