Mater Dei Prep will hold its signature fundraising event, the Seraph Strong Gala, at The Shadowbrook in Shrewsbury on Feb. 11. The annual event typically raises almost $75,000, with the money used to enhance academic programs and facilities at the school.
This year’s event honors James Shaw IV (MD ’76), a member of the Mater Dei Prep Board of Trustees and a driving force behind the Save the Seraphs campaign in 2015 as chairman of The Seraph’s Fund. Shaw is active in the Mater Dei Prep Booster Club and probably best known for playing the bagpipes at football games and at graduations. He is the chairman of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Polar Plunge for Catholic Education. Shaw will be honored for his commitment to Mater Dei Prep.
The 2017 Gala features online, silent and gift auctions; cocktails and dinner; and entertainment by The Trend. With only 300 available seats, this event will sell out quickly. The deadline to RSVP is Feb. 1. To help honor Shaw for his commitment to Mater Dei Prep, consider attending this year’s event, sponsoring the Seraph Strong Gala or advertising in the gala ad journal. The school has over 6,000 alumni, most of whom still live in Monmouth and Ocean counties, with an active alumni association.
