The winter scholastic season continues to roll on. Here is a full dosage of sporting events worth attending.
The boys’ basketball slate has a full plate …
On Jan. 26, the schedule is full of Greater Middlesex Conference (GMC) matchups.
Old Bridge High School hosts East Brunswick High School in a game scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Also at that time, South Brunswick High School makes a trip to play at Piscataway Township High School.
The 7 p.m. starting time features two games. John P. Stevens High School makes the short trip from Edison to nearby Metuchen, where Saint Joseph High School awaits. Monroe Township High School will be home to Perth Amboy High School.
On Jan. 27, the Shore Conference dominates the schedule. In the earliest start of the day, Howell High School will be home to Marlboro High School at 4 p.m.
At 5:30 p.m., undefeated Freehold Township High School puts its clean slate on the line when it pays a call to Christian Brothers Academy (CBA).
The 6:30 time slot is chock full of games. Freehold High School will be at Jackson Liberty High School; Manalapan High School pays a visit to Colts Neck High School; Middletown High School South plays at Monmouth Regional High School in Tinton Falls; Ocean Township High School hosts Middletown High School North; and St. John Vianney High School entertains its town rival, Holmdel High School.
Additionally, Spotswood High School is home to Metuchen High School at 6 p.m. and Bishop George Ahr High School hosts Carteret High School in Edison at 7 p.m.
The schedule Jan. 28 offers some more interesting games. At 11:30 a.m., Ranney School, which is one of the strongest teams in the Shore Conference this winter, will be home in Tinton Falls to play Keyport High School.
Three games at 1 p.m. the afternoon action. St. Joseph will be home in Metuchen to Neptune High School, while Old Bridge pays a visit to South Plainfield High School and Monroe hosts Spotswood.

The GMC is heavy with games Jan. 26.
At 6 p.m., South Brunswick welcome Piscataway, while at 7 p.m., three games of interest are Old Bridge at East Brunswick, Monroe at Perth Amboy and the battle of Edison at J.P. Stevens, which is home to Edison.
Two notable games from the Shore Conference are Howell at Marlboro at 4 p.m. and Red Bank Regional High School at Freehold Township at 5:30 p.m.
The Shore Conference continues with some appealing matchups Jan. 27.
Matawan Regional High School entertains Shore Regional and Middletown North hosts Ocean Township, with both games slated to tip off at 5:15 p.m. At 5:30 p.m., Monmouth Regional plays at Middletown South, and the battle of Homldel will be staged at Holmdel, which will bid to upset the state power St. John Vianney at 6:30 p.m.
There is a busy schedule Jan. 28.
Ranney School is home in Tinton Falls to Keyport at 10 a.m. Also that morning, Monroe hosts Spotswood and Old Bridge entertains Woodbridge High School, with both games slated to begin at 11:30 a.m.
At 1 p.m., East Brunswick visits Somerset County to tangle with Bridgewater-Raritan High School. In another Middlesex-Somerset meeting, South Brunswick is home to Montgomery High School.
To close the day, Allentown High School takes the journey east to face Middletown North at 4:30 p.m.
Roll over to the wrestling mats …
Three matches to keep an eye on Jan. 25 are Marlboro at Middletown South at 5:30 p.m. and Middletown North at Freehold Township and Matawan home to Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, with both slated to go off at 6 p.m.
The schedule is robust Jan. 28. Four quad meets spice the slate that day.
Marlboro will be the venue at 9 a.m. when Freehold, Lacey Township High School and Point Pleasant Beach High School pay a call to join the host team. Also scheduled to go off at 9 a.m., Freehold Township, Central Regional High School and Lakewood High School will be in the field with host team Matawan.
Another 9 a.m. start has Ocean Township hosting a quad meet that has attracted Colts Neck, Raritan High School and Toms River High School North.
Also at 9 a.m., the home team, St. John Vianney, will be joined in the field by it rival Holmdel as well as Red Bank Regional and Rumson-Fair Haven.
Skating away on the ice …
The bulk of the ice hockey games this week will be contested on Jan. 27.
Howell Ice Arena will serve as a doubleheader on that day. In the 4:40 p.m. opener, Manalapan will skate against Jackson Liberty. Following at 8:15 p.m. is a matchup between Marlboro and Jackson Memorial High School.
Pro Skate in Monmouth Junction will be the venue for South Brunswick and St. Joseph. as those teams will meet in a 3:30 p.m. start.
In the water …
Jan. 26 is a busy day in the swimming pools.
Holmdel will swim in a boys’ and girls’ meet against Colts Neck at the Freehold YMCA in a 2:30 p.m. start. At 3:30 p.m., Middletown South and Red Bank Regional will meet at the Raritan Bay YMCA in Perth Amboy.
At 4:30 p.m., the boys and girls from Long Branch High School and Raritan convene at the Woodbridge YMCA, while in a boys’ meet, CBA and Freehold Township compete at the Neptune Aquatic Center in a 6 p.m. start.
The Raritan Bay Area YMCA will serve as the site for the Greater Middlesex Conference’s championships on Friday, Jan. 27, for the girls, and Saturday, Jan. 28. for the boys. The girls will start at 5 p.m. on Friday, while the boys will begin swimming on Saturday at 9 a.m.
