Ernest J. Jolley, 84, a lifelong resident of Monroe Township, passed away on Jan. 17, 2017.
Ernest served in the U.S. Navy for over 12 years in active duty and the reserves. He worked at GM for 42 years and received an award for Excellence for Outstanding Community Service, which was awarded to only 10 recipients nationwide.
He was active in national and community organizations, including being a committeeman and mayor of Monroe Township; a charter member of the local Jaycees; American Legion; Elks; Jamesburg Area Library; Boy Scouts; and historical associations.
He traveled and camped in the U.S., Canada and other foreign countries with his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ballard F. and Gladys Jolley; his grandparents, Ernest and Ella Reid; and his sister, Barbara Forgione.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Rose Ann Payton Jolley; sons, Alan and his wife, Theresa, and Michael; daughter, Carol Sarik and her husband, Richard; and brothers, F. Carlton Jolley of Monroe Township and Denis Jolley of Hartville, Missouri.
A funeral service was held at Lester Memorial Home, 16 W. Church St., Jamesburg. Burial was in Old Tennent Cemetery.
