Playhouse 22, East Brunswick’s community theater, will hold open auditions for its upcoming black-box production of “The Complete Works of Shakespeare: Abridged” 7:30 p.m. Feb. 13 and 15 at the East Brunswick Community Arts Center, 721 Cranbury Road. Callbacks, by invitation only, are planned for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16.
The show, written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield and directed by Jennifer Moffett, is part of the theater’s On the Edge series, designed as an opportunity for directors to present lesser-known or smaller works and to emphasize the play and the acting over more technical theatrical elements. The performance space will be the community room at the theater, which will be transformed into a black-box space with stage lighting and sound.
Producers are seeking three actors, male or female, 18 years or older, who are willing to take on the challenge of all 37 of Shakespeare’s plays, plus the sonnets. Actors must be able to move and execute a fast-paced, physically demanding show. Improvisational experience is a bonus but not required. Auditioners should prepare a Shakespearean monologue in an unconventional way. Additional talents and skills are welcome.
Auditions will be held on a first-come basis. Appointments are not necessary. Paid stipends will not be available. Show dates are set for April 28-May 7.
