The 11th annual Henry “Spud” Dobenski Jr. Memorial Scholarship Awards Dinner will be held March 12 at Jamesburg Elks Lodge No. 2180, West Railroad Avenue. Hors d’oeuvres will be served at 4:15 p.m. Dinner will begin at 5 p.m.
Cash scholarships will be presented to Monroe Township High School seniors living in Jamesburg and to Grace M. Breckwedel Middle School eighth-graders in recognition of their achievements in academics and athletics. The Mallard Trap Club will provide a cash scholarship to the highest-ranked Jamesburg senior graduating in June.
Tickets, which must be reserved by Feb. 24, cost $40 per person. A full dinner will be prepared and served by Sir Ives Catering, Jamesburg.
The scholarship foundation is devoted to Jamesburg students in memory of “Spud” Dobenski, a resident of Jamesburg who graduated in 1957 from Jamesburg High School. Dobenski was a soccer player, soccer official, Board of Education member, Borough Council member, American Legion commander, chairman of the borough’s annual Memorial Day Parade, and a life member of Jamesburg Elks Lodge No. 2180. The Dobenski foundation will present a check to the Elks to help the lodge continue its work with special-needs children.
